Minor and Double Major Programs
Double Major and Minor Programs for the Department of Economics
The principles governing the Double Major Program, which allows students successfully pursuing their undergraduate studies at Galatasaray University to obtain a second bachelor’s degree in another field, are set out in the Galatasaray University Directive on Double Major Programs.
Students of the Department of Economics may pursue a double major with the Department of Mathematics of the Faculty of Arts and Sciences.
Within the framework of double major programs:
- Students enrolled in an associate degree program as their first major may apply to a second associate degree program at the earliest at the beginning of the second semester and at the latest at the beginning of the third semester.
- Students enrolled in a bachelor’s degree program as their first major may apply to a second bachelor’s degree program at the earliest at the beginning of the third semester and at the latest at the beginning of the fifth semester.
In addition, students applying to a second major program must meet the following conditions:
- The student must have successfully completed all courses taken in the first major program up to the semester of application.
- The student’s cumulative GPA at the time of application must be at least 3.00 out of 4.00, and the student must rank within the top 20% of the relevant class in the first major program.
- Students whose cumulative GPA is at least 3.00 out of 4.00 but who are not ranked within the top 20% of their class in the first major program may also apply to the double major program provided that they have a university entrance score equal to or higher than the base score of the relevant program for that year.
- A student who has transferred to a department through horizontal transfer may not apply to double major programs in the semester in which they start the transferred program.
- A student may not apply to more than one double major program at the same time.
The principles governing the Minor Program, which allows students successfully pursuing their undergraduate studies at Galatasaray University to gain knowledge in another field of interest, are set out in the Galatasaray University Directive on Minor Programs.
Students of the Department of Economics may pursue a minor with the Department of Business Administration, the Department of Industrial Engineering of the Faculty of Engineering and Technology, and the Department of Mathematics of the Faculty of Arts and Sciences.
Within the framework of minor programs:
- Students enrolled in an associate degree major program may apply to a minor program at the earliest at the beginning of the second semester and at the latest at the beginning of the third semester.
- Students enrolled in a bachelor’s degree major program may apply to a minor program at the earliest at the beginning of the third semester and at the latest at the beginning of the sixth semester.
In addition, students applying to a minor program must meet the following conditions:
- The student must have successfully completed all courses required in the major program up to the semester of application.
- The student’s cumulative GPA at the time of application must be at least 2.60 out of 4.00.
- A student who has transferred to a department through horizontal or vertical transfer may not apply to minor programs in the semester in which they start the transferred program.
- A student may apply to more than one minor program at the same time, but must indicate an order of preference in the application. The student may enroll in only one minor program in line with this order of preference. A student enrolled in a double major program may not apply to minor programs.
Currently, for the Undergraduate Program in Economics, students from the Department of Mathematics may apply for a double major, while students from the Departments of Business Administration, Industrial Engineering, and Mathematics may apply for a minor.
