About the Department
Founded in 1992 under an international agreement signed between Türkiye and France, Galatasaray University is a public university whose language of instruction is French.
The undergraduate program of the Department of Economics at Galatasaray University provides students with the mathematical and statistical methods and tools required for economic analysis, while also encouraging them to develop an interest in other fields of the social sciences. In line with these objectives, our department offers double major and minor programs with the Department of Mathematics, as well as minor programs with the Department of Business Administration and the Department of Industrial Engineering.
The Department of Economics aims to educate students with international qualifications.
In line with this objective, the department offers a dual degree program with the Department of Economics of Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne University, with the participation of visiting faculty members from Paris 1 University. Students who successfully complete the program are entitled to receive not only the Bachelor’s degree in Economics from Galatasaray University, but also the Bachelor’s degree in Economics from Paris 1 University.
Students of the Department of Economics are encouraged to benefit from the Erasmus student exchange program. Students participating in the exchange program spend one semester during their third or fourth year of undergraduate studies at partner universities in Europe.
In addition to its undergraduate program, our department offers an M.A. Program in Economics with Thesis, a Non-Thesis Master’s Program in Financial Economics, and a Ph.D. Program in Economics. The department’s research activities are carried out within the Galatasaray University Economic Research Center (GIAM).
